Bertrand D Hsu American & Chinese Bicultural Academy is an innovative new school with a very different culture than a traditional private or public school. Our founder and executives come from entrepreneurial private sector backgrounds and operate the school with a customer centric, results oriented and entrepreneurial approach.

We are an innovative school because we use different pedagogies in our teaching, compensate our teachers differently, and offer flexible and results oriented working arrangements. We build in daily preparation time for all of our teachers. We build in collaboration time for our teachers and expect them to work, learn and grow together. We provide regular professional development for our teachers and mentorship from veteran educators. We monitor the results of our decisions and efforts on a timely basis, and if we are not satisfied, we find the root causes and modify our approach. That's what it means to be agile.

Teaching positions can be full-time or part-time and report to the Head of School.

After School Program Manager (Half-Time)
Our After School Program serves BHA's own students as well as students from neighborhood schools. The After School Program Manager will be responsible for picking up students from their day schools in the afternoons to bring them to BHA, directing them to scheduled classes and activities inside and outside of BHA, and helping students complete homework (English and math) as needed.
Bilingual Teacher (TK - 2nd Grades)
Our elementary school Bilingual Teacher will use English and Mandarin as needed to serve students with varying language abilities. The teacher will use Mandarin as much as possible to teach Math, Art and Science and use English to teach English and Social Studies, following our chosen curriculum. Classes will be of mixed grade students ranging from transitional kindergarten to 2nd grade. There will be preparation time each day as other subject teachers are teaching students Chinese, Chinese Culture, PE, Music, etc. There will be additional weekly preparation time as students are taken out for field trips.
Homeroom Teacher (3rd - 5th Grades)
Our elementary school Homeroom (HR) Teacher will teach primarily English, some Social Studies, and some Math to classes of mixed grade students ranging from 3rd to 5th grade, following our chosen curriculum. The teacher will be expected to teach students of varying proficiency levels of English as some may be new immigrant students who do not speak much English while others are native English speakers. There will be preparation time each day as other subject teachers are teaching students Math, Chinese, PE/Art/Music/etc. There will be additional weekly preparation time as students are taken out for field trips.
