After School Program
Homework Support + Sports + Enrichment

Our after-school program provides a safe and supportive environment where students can complete homework, stay active, and have fun. We welcome both our BHA day school students as well as students attending other local schools.

Our daily program offers:

  • Mandarin Chinese learning and tutoring

  • Homework support with teachers who check for accuracy and understanding, not just completion

  • Additional Chinese language practice when homework is finished

  • Supplemental math practice when homework is finished

  • Sports and activities that build skills and agility

  • Enrichment classes like piano, drawing and painting

  • Snacks included

Our unique program is supported by seasoned professionals:

Chinese Language Support with Ms. Meng (孟老师): daily
Originally from Beijing, Ms. Meng has taught Mandarin Chinese for 20+ years in the US. She developed and executes BHA’s Chinese language program for TK-8th grades and is a kind, caring and effective teacher.

Sports Program with Coach Allen: 2-3 times per week
Coach Allen was an all-city basketball and baseball player for Lowell High School. He opened the first CrossFit Gym in Xi’an, China, and from 2017-2023 was the Women’s Varsity Basketball Head Coach and Assistant Baseball Coach at Galileo High School. Coach Allen will cover units on basketball and baseball with an emphasis on coordination, teamwork and sportsmanship.

Reviews

“My son who attends a local Mandarin immersion elementary school spends every afternoon at Bert Hsu as part of their afterschool program and has been loving it! We've tried other afterschool options and this one is a great fit for our child. Their program includes substantive Mandarin and math support along with physical outdoor and indoor play with games etc. The Mandarin teacher Ms Meng is a gem, such a kind and caring guide for the kids. Director Ann is incredibly helpful and never forgets details about each student's specific needs. We love being part of this community. Highly recommend!”
